I’ve been taking this newfound success in stride by staying grounded and grateful. Ibelieve I was prepared for this moment through all the hard work and dedication I’veput into my journey sofar. It’s been a long road, and this success is unlike anything I’veexperienced before. Were you surprised when you learnt that the song had entered the Billboard charts?

I wasn’t particularly surprised when I learned that the song had entered the Billboardcharts. We had been closely monitoring the streams and seeing the views steadilyincrease daily, so it felt like a natural progression. However, the real surprise came whenwe discovered that it had debuted at #2 on the Billboard Gospel Digital Song Sales chart, which is a top 10 chart. Additionally, it debuted at #22 on the Billboard U.S. AfrobeatsSongs chart, which is a top 50 chart. To top it off, the song reached #48 on the TikTokBillboard charts, which was truly unexpected. The fact that it has garnered over 600million views on TikTok is astonishing, and I can only attributethis success to Godbecause it was the most unexpected and incredible blessing.

What is the inspiration behind the song?

At the end of 2023, I was all set to release a new track with some prominent figures in
the gospel and Christian music industry.
However, we encountered a delay due to
clearance issues, and the word was to wait until January. Not wanting to leave my
followers hanging, I decided to put together something else in the meantime.
This is when everything fell into place. A melody that ha
d been playing in my mind for a
while finally came together. I immediately got to work in my home studio, laid down the
foundation, and then sent it to a producer in Kenya. To my delight, he captured the vibe
perfectly, adding a beat that resonated with th
e warm December vibes back home.
On Christmas Day, inspiration struck again, and I spontaneously added lines about
blessings, favor, and prosperity. It was a heartfelt and genuine expression. I felt that the
song was more than just a tune; it was a person
al prayer and declaration for the New
Year. So, I decided to share a snippet of the song online on New Year’s Eve.

Take us back in time, how did you get your start in the gospel?

Sherwin Gardner, a native of Trinidad & Tobago, comes from a lineage of evangelists, deeply rooted in the world of faith. His mother, Rev. Merle Gardner, is apastor, hisuncle, Kennedy Patterson, is a gospel artist, and his grandfather, Ivan Patterson, was arevered Bishop in the New Testament church. Sherwin’s journey into gospel musicstarted at a young age, singing in churches at just five years old. His debut album,“Power in the Name,”was released when he was only 17, marking the beginning of anextraordinary musical odyssey. In a time when gospel music with Caribbean instrumentation was often dismissed assecular due to its focus on rhythm over lyrics,Sherwin Gardner dared to challengeconventions. His unique fusion of reggae, soca, and dancehall rhythms with gospelmessages started to change minds in the early90’s. His music became a catalyst, inspiring youth to transform their lives and embrace Christianity.

At what age did you give your life to Christ?

Answered in previous

What would you say has been the highlight for your gospel career thus far?

The highlight of my gospel career thus far has truly been the incredible journey itself, marked by unwavering perseverance and the remarkable transformation of the gospelmusic landscape. I’ve been a part of this industry for an extended period, and it’s vital torecognize the significant challenges we faced in the past. Back in the ’90s, I stood amongthose artists who encountered closed doors from pastors and churches skeptical aboutthe place of reggae gospel within the church community. Nevertheless, we tenaciouslypushed through those adversities. The turning point came in 1999 when Papa San, Chevelle Franklyn, and Lt. Stichieembraced Christianity. Their conversions injected new life and authenticity into whatwe, as young artists, were doing within the genre. This pivotal moment showcased thatour music had the power to convey a profound message of faith and hope, resonatingwith a much broader audience and shattering barriers that had existed for so long. Now, this song has significantly changed my life in countless ways, opening doors andgranting me access to places I never could have imagined. “Find Me Here” encapsulatesthe essence of this transformation because it’s a testament to the numerous blessings that have found their way into my life. I’d have to say that both the journey of the past, with all its challenges, and the current journey are the main highlights of my gospelcareer. It’s a remarkable journey filled with faith, perseverance, and the realization thatmusic has the power to bring people together and convey messages of love and grace.

Where in Trinidad are you originally from and where did you study?

I’m originally from East Trinidad, a small village known as Brazil Village. When it comes to my education, I attended a well-known school in Trinidad called St. Augustine Senior Comprehensive, affectionately known as “The Green Machine.” We earned that nickname primarily because of our formidable football team.

You have collaborated with a few Jamaican artistes, who is your favorite collaborator and why?

You made me laugh, but I can’t answer that. Your perspective is truly admirable, as thisblessing is a shared one among all of us. We are fortunate to have massive talents in theislands, and I wholeheartedly look forward to witnessing all of us rise and collectivelycarry this positive Gospel message to every corner of the world.

How many times have you performed in Jamaica? What do you enjoy most about performing before a Jamaican audience?

I’ve had the privilege of performing in Jamaica a little over six times. What I enjoy mostabout performingbefore a Jamaican audience is the incredible energy, passion, and theheartfelt expression of their commitment and faith. It’s always a pleasure to be inJamaica because it feels like a second home to me, and the warm reception from theaudience is trulyreminiscent of the love and support I experience back home.
